Nice comparison. As I have been an amateur archer for some years, I understand exactly the "oh shit" feeling miliseconds before the arrow takes off and you realize you have let go to soon.
As for emails, mostly I do not postpone, but as a good habit I always carefully read, and if necessary rework, what I wrote, before sending. Often - mostly when I am pissed of for some reason - I end up with a clear difference between what I finally wrote and what I initially started to write.

Hi Sébastien,

My closing eye Technic at office: iPod + Do Not Disturb sign on communicator (my enterprise IM solution)
Then the music can change: either childout (Pïnk Floyd is one of my favorite) if I need to or more punchy... electro (no vocal)

Cheers

Francis,

In my next post, we will analyse how to select the right channel and I will draw a table to help selecting.
Most of us shoot an email where a phone call should be the best choice.
I invite you to read my old post on IM http://bexinfu.com/2010/05/14/does-im-stand-for-instant-messaging-or-instant-messing/ which give you a clue on how communication channels are used today

Good reminder!
The key point is to select the right channel for the "type" of communication you need, considering the topics, the recipients, the time you can wait before getting feedback, etc. A multi-entry typology would show that e-mail correctly fits only few cases. Might be interesting deepening further the analysis on the basis of day-to-day experience!

Very true. I must say that I am even delaying some mails to the next day, especially when I am very pissed and that I wrote an answer immediately after reading the mail. It allows me either not sending it at all (in case I miss understood the first mail), or to edulcorate a bit my wording so I am not to rude.
But, you know... I'm french so I should be rude sometimes :o)))

Excellent analysis... and I agree with Francisco, the Trust issue is the most important. Employees (who, contrary to the belief of some, are not idiots) sense immediately when they are not trusted, and this can devastate their sense of commitment to the company. To lose this commitment would be a poor decision even before employees had the option of surfing whatever they want on their cellphone...
